Château Cantemerle, 5eme Cru Classé, Haut Medoc, 2020
Opaque and brooding with lots of liquorice, black cherry and dark savoury fruits. It has a nice round texture with plenty of extraction and concentration. Thick, chocolatey, and clearly a good, well-made wine, it finishes with mineral infused crème de mûre fruit and spice.
critic reviews
The 2020 Cantemerle has a pastille-like bouquet that lacks the complexity of its peers. The palate is fleshy, ripe and grippy with plenty of red fruit, but nagging green notes poleaxe the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
The 2020 Cantemerle has turned out well in bottle, offering up aromas of rich black fruits, plums, pencil shavings and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with ripe, powdery structuring tannins and a nicely defined finish, it's generous and expressive while remaining classically proportioned.
The 2020 Cantemerle is deep garnet-purple in color. It features notes of cassis and black raspberries, with suggestions of tobacco, wild sage, and fragrant soil. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers cedar-laced black and red berry flavors, with a light chewiness to the texture and a refreshing, minerally finish.
Ruby red colour, bursting with brambled fruit, these are young and still closed down tannins, trace of chalkiness, opening to show cassis and blueberry fruit, sleek and pretty. Attrractive austerity in this wine gives this a savoury quality, medium bodied, with cocoa bean and mint left on the finish. Tasted twice, love the aromatics after a good few hours of opening. 45hl/ha yield, 40% new oak
