
Château Climens, 1er Cru Classé, Barsac, 2016
Always one of the finest and most precise sweeties in Bordeaux. This is precision Barsac. The final blend, as ever, will not be carried out until the end of the year but the elements look incredibly promising. Tasted in four lots. The southern lots were picked between the 6th to the 22nd October and represent 43 percent of the blend – glorious floral peach blossom notes with a core of honey and apricot flavours, all of which spring from the glass, rich but fragrant and fine. 141g/l of sugar. The East parcels were picked between 28th September and 7th October, hear there is even more richness but with good acidity, a touch more alcohol and a little less sugar at 129g, this will add a solid structure to the blend. The blend of parcels from the West were fuller still with crushed woody spice nose, whilst finally the blend of northern parcels make for something a little less viscous but opulent and expressive, notes of fruit blossom and acacia honey, a sense of less botrytis, but great intensity of fragrance .
