Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

Dark gold in colour, this is concentrated from start to finish, lusciously sweet in texture, burnt toffee, mango and caramelised ginger, lifted by citrus, white flower and pink grapefruit notes. Harvest from September 16 through to October 26, with six successive passes through the rows.

Neal Martin, Vinous

The 2020 Coutet has an intense bouquet with dried honey, saffron, dandelion and light crushed stone aromas, nicely focused and fairly complex. Quintessential Coutet. The palate is very well balanced with a decent thread of acidity, taut and fresh, not as powerful as Doisy-Daëne yet with admirable tension on the ginger-tinged finish. Very fine.

Château Coutet

Château Coutet

This Bordeaux sweet wine from the Barsac is under the direction and management of the Baly family as well as the technical and commercial collaboration of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. company. Situated in the Garonne Valley and in close proximity to the Ciron River, the 95 acres of vines within the property’s walls enjoy an advantageous microclimate and an exceptional terroir to produce a sweet wine with a signature style. Château Coutet’s vineyards are planted with the traditional varietals of the Barsac and Sauternes appellations: Sémillon, Sauvignon blanc, and Muscadelle. With an average of 38 years, the vines have developed a network of deep roots to extract elements from the limestone and clay-based terroir, giving the grapes freshness, richness and strength. The wine is aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels following in-barrel fermentation.
