Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac, 2008
66.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31.5% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot. Represents 47% of the production. Les Forts has shrugged off the tag of a 'second wine'. It essentially comes from its own terroir, but a little declassified grand vin makes its way into the blend as well (hardly a bad thing...). This is easily of classified growth quality. Aromatically, this is quite closed; it is a brooding, large scale Forts with lots of power and structure. The attack is stunning. Massively concentrated with very classic flavours, good structure and beautiful purity. This is a very fresh, stylish and impressive Forts de Latour.
critic reviews
The 2008 Les Forts de Latour has a clean and precise bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and pressed flower scents that blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and focused with a sappy blackberry and bilberry finish that still feels quite grippy. Two bottles were opened, quite different from each other, but the better one suggests it will give another decade of drinking pleasure. (Tasted at BI Wine & Spirit’s annual 10-Year On tasting.)
