critic reviews
Deep garnet-purple colored. After some swirling, notes of strawberry and rhubarb pie slowly emerge, followed by hints of dried herbs, pencil lead, and tilled soil. The light to medium-bodied palate is delicate and refreshing with just enough tangy flavors and a lightly chewy texture, finishing with an herbal lift.
The 2024 Malescot Saint Exupéry has a cohesive nose with ample scents of blackberry, raspberry, light violet and just a touch of cedar in the background—backward, for sure, but it unfurls in the glass. The medium-bodied palate has firm tannins, a little chewy in a pleasant way with composure and bite on the finish. This is a thoroughly enjoyable fresh Margaux that will drink earlier than the 2022.
Inky in colour, roses, slate, liquorice, cassis bud, this is slim but with grip and texture, lifts through the palate and is an enjoyable if understated wine. 50% new oak. Harvest 1 to 15 October, Léa Zuger owner.
