The nose is very deep and supple, with a great texture on the palate. The aromatic complexity here marks it out from the rest, with droplets of acacia honey and melon, deeper hints of candied orange segments and even softened leather following on a very long, delicious finish. Wonderfully evocative, completing a trio of outstanding successes for the Barons de Rothschild. A must-buy.

The 2005 Rieussec has a petrolly nose with quince, fig and Clementine scents that blossom in the glass. Good intensity. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening and fine grip, very pure in style, with fig, dates and peach towards the harmonious finish. Lovely. Tasted at the 2005 Sauternes horizontal held at Château Coutet.
