Puligny Montrachet, Les Folatières, 1er Cru, 2017
A Puligny that offers another level of complexity and drive. Refined, focused, controlled ripe fruit. Crystalline, energetic flavours of citrus, crushed stones, mandarin and rock salt. So poised and stylish yet seamlessly vibrant. Such class and vitality. Stunning. One of the top vineyards in Puligny next to Caillerets, from a high-up parcel where the soil is particularly poor and stony but well exposed to the sun. From a particularly well situated parcel in the northernmost corner of this great vineyard, right next to the Leflaive vines. Aged in 10% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru sports quite a bit of reduction on the nose that makes the terroir and fruit profile difficult to read. The palate is well balanced, taut and fresh, with a fine bead of acidity and good depth; quite powerful for a Folatières. Fine bitter lemon notes surface on the finish, which is very sapid and more-ish. A long-term wine but well worth cellaring. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.
