Bruno Clair
Chambolle Musigny, Les Charmes, 1er Cru, 2021
justerini & brooks tasting note
The vines for Bruno’s Charmes were planted in the sixties and tend to bud later so this was less affected by frost in 2021. Crisp cool fruit that leans towards the darker end of the spectrum. This is quite closed and firm but you sense there’s flesh that should emerge with time. Backlit earthy notes give a savoury quality. Less open and ethereal than the Veroilles, with more density and structure.

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a more intense nose than the Les Veroilles, but maybe without the same nuance and finesse. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite strict and linear, just needing a touch more matière on the finish. Fine overall.
