Bruno Clair
Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos Saint-Jacques, 1er Cru, 2016
justerini & brooks tasting note
Cooling, incredily precise and intense small fruit and fruit blossom aromas. Hyper-fine and bright red cherry fruit mixed with notes of garriguettes, rocks and minerals. So lithe and toned, bracing and refined. Power without density. The ethereal qualities and seamless strength that define the great Burgundies. One of Gevrey’s great Premiers Crus situated high up on the slope, many believe it to be more deserving of Grand Cru status than a number of Gevrey’s more dubious Grands Crus. This high situation and red clay-based soils make for wines of freshness, tension and well-defined structure.
