Echézeaux, du Dessus, Grand Cru, 2016
As brilliant as the Chapelle but the polar opposite in style. Gorgeous aromas of fresh red fruits and flowers. Richer than previous vintages but with some poise nonetheless and beautifully round. This offering enticing ripe flavours of fruit blossom, red cherry, rose, griotte and kirsch. Not a blockbuster but a showstopper with its long, seductive and graceful nature. A beauty. A more racy, fine-tuned style of Echézeaux than most from the high ‘Dessus’ part of the vineyard, the 6ha heart of Echézeaux.
critic reviews
The 2016 Echézeaux de Dessus Grand Cru certainly offers one of the better aromatics from this vineyard with raspberry, crushed strawberry and cranberry aromas, tertiary top notes emerging with aeration in the glass. The oak feels neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, quite mineral-driven and spicy with a sorbet-like finish where the oak is just a tad too prominent. There is great potential here and time should round off some of its edges. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
