Vosne Romanée, Les Rouges du Dessus, 1er Cru, 2011
Flinty, savoury and mineral. The fruit is fine, clear and focused; cool, crunchy cherry and plum flavours mixed with warmer touches of kirsch. A nicely streamlined and racy Vosne with a fine, gently gripping tannic backbone. From the high Rouges de Dessous parcel just above Echézeaux, a late-ripening gravelly vineyard that yields wines of great vitality.
critic reviews
The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Le Rouge du Dessus is another wine that stands out this vintage. Intriguing for its balance of perfumed aromatics and precise, saline-drenched fruit, the 2011 is firing on all cylinders. The use of 60% whole clusters gives the wine gorgeous lift, especially on the finish. In 2011, the Rouge is a wine that invites contemplation. Cécile Tremblay adds that she brought this fruit in on 9/14, her last pick of the year.
