Château de Meursault, Meursault, Les Perrières, 1er Cru, 2016

Less immediately alluring than the estate’s Meursault Charmes; classically Perrières. Firm and crispy. Gripping flavours of crushed dry stones, minerals and sea salt with zesty notes of lemon rind. Bracing and taut. From two parcels within Perrières Dessus, just above their Bourgogne Terroir d’Exception, and 55-year-old and 45-year-old vines.

The 2017 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is clean and crisp, almost clinical, on the intense nose, but I feel it’s beginning to close down for a phase. The palate is very well balanced and full of tension, but strict and linear, with a saline finish and not much else... for now. Cellar this for several years and you will have a serious Les Perrières on your hands. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.
