Pommard, Les Rugiens du Bas, 1er Cru, 2020
One of the most complete wines in the cellar. Full, dark mulled-spiced fruit - dense, deep and solid with tremendous length and class. This tapers into a clean, clear lifting finish that cuts through the dense mid-palate. Grand, refined and complex. 65% whole bunch fermentation and aged in 40% new oak. From the iron-rich "Bas" part of the vineyard considered the prime part of Rugiens. The vines are fifty-five years old.
critic reviews
The 2020 Pommard Les Rugiens-Bas 1er Cru has a very strict and linear nose at first, mineral-driven with light undergrowth scents, the 100% whole cluster lending a light pepperiness. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry, quite firm in the mouth, good volumes with a lot of backbone and sturdiness on the finish. This will require 5-7 years to soften so have a cellar handy. Closure: Diam
