Pommard, Les Rugiens du Bas, 1er Cru, 2019
A really very powerful Rugiens, monumental and mightily intense dark bramble, sloe and blueberry notes mixed with undergrowth, vanilla pod and mineral. Muscled, but expansive fruit that need times to unfurl. From the iron-rich "Bas" part of the vineyard considered the prime part of Rugiens. The vines are fifty five years old. Fermented with a third whole bunches and aged in 40% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2019 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has the finest bouquet of the four Pommards tasted, the 100% whole cluster seamlessly integrated into the more black than red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry, classic in style, with touches of Earl Grey infusing the finish. Cohesive and very persistent, this is an excellent and quite noble Les Rugiens.
