Puligny Montrachet, Les Caillerets, 1er Cru, 2022
Great delineation on the nose. A wine of texture, flow and expressive fruit – lemon confit, dried lemon, fine salt and fine stones. There’s a calm intensity here, not snappy and sparky, more a gentle and gently persistent insistence. Caillerets is an exceptionally well-situated vineyard with Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet as neighbours. Only 20% of this is aged in new oak and the barrels are a mixture of barriques and larger demi-muid barrels to minimise their influence. The vines are 50 years old.
critic reviews
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a slightly more appley, linear and stonier bouquet than the more comely Folatières. You could argue the aromatics deliver more typicité. The palate is well-balanced, crisp and taut, with plenty of crushed stone character and more complexity towards the finish. This Puligny carries intellectual weight and should age well in bottle.
