    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Domaine de Montille, Vosne Romanée, Aux Malconsorts Christianne, 1er Cru, 2009

This comes from a specific parcel of Malconsorts on the other side of the road to the main vineyard, situated next to the original part of La Tâche. A very special parcel indeed that produces wine that bears more than a passing resemblance to its illustrious neighbour. More closed than the standard Malconsorts but clearly with an extra level of richness. Deep suave and concentrated, ripe crushed damson, blueberry and fruit liqueur flavours with notes of dried rose and violet, lush and smooth, with a deep, cooling mineral dimension and serious tannic backbone, incredible.

(from older vines and different plant material than the regular Malconsorts, on soil with more of a clay component): Healthy dark red. Dark and brooding on the reticent nose. Densely packed and extremely intense, with its youthfully medicinal dark berry, dark chocolate and saline mineral flavors only hinting at the complexity to come. Boasts grand cru volume and breadth but extremely backward today. Most impressive right now on the dense, saline back end, which displays rich, seamless tannins and outstanding slow-mounting length. This vineyard typically ripens its fruit very quickly, noted Sieve.

    Domaine de Montille

Etienne is one of Burgundy's great purists, his long-lived wines may need time but they are some of the most honest and terroir-driven wines in Burgundy. The wines are fermented using all or partial whole bunch vinification depending on the vintage, élévage is long and slow in their cold cellars and percentages of new oak are low, rarely more than 50% even for Malconsorts. From some of the most vivid, intense Beaune's there are to perfumed, stylish Volnays and silky Vosnes Romanee, Etienne makes a borad range of some of Burgundy's most polished wines. The Domaine's policy on white wines is to pick as early as possible, as soon as the fruit has just approached ripeness, resulting in tense, fine wines with alcohols rarely more than 13%
