Vosne Romanée, Aux Malconsorts Christianne, 1er Cru, 2019
More closed than the regular Malconsorts, and more on the savoury, spicy side of the spectrum. Dark, rich flavours gradually unfurl with a little coaxing - dark berry, black cherry and cherry liqueur infused with clove cinnamon and nutmeg. Soft, svelte, rich and elongated. From a very special part of the Malconsort vineyard, a parcel that is the other side of the road to the main Malconsorts block, surrounded by the original part of La Tache. Aged in a little more new oak than the classic Malconsorts and fermented with 100% whole bunches.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts Cuvée Christiane 1er Cru is whole cluster fruit and has a touch more intensity on the nose, while the fruit is a little darker: bilberry and blackberry, plus touches of violet petals. The medium-bodied palate is rounded with a refined opening, a smooth texture and good grip. Plenty of freshness here, and then the structure synonymous with Malconsorts kicks in on the finish. Superb.
