Vosne Romanée, Aux Malconsorts, 1er Cru, 2015
A more Nuits style of Vosne, muscular and powerful yet with great complexity and ripe fruit to balance. Intense flavours of earth, brambles, undergrowth and dark chocolate with a hint of cherry. A Burgundy that flexes its considerable muscles. A vineyard that sits next to the Boudots of Nuits-St.-Georges that can produce similarly powerful, gripping wines. The other side of the Vosne commune to Suchots and totally the other side of the spectrum in terms of style.
critic reviews
The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru has an intriguing bouquet, quite meaty and almost Rhône-like in style, but well defined and certainly possessing plenty of charm. The palate is medium-bodied with bold, solid, obdurate tannin. This is clearly a Premier Cru designed for long-term aging, and I suspect that it is beginning to close down. One for the patient among you. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
