Nuits St Georges, Aux Boudots, 1er Cru, 2023
Dark cherry and sweet spice. More on the pure fruit side than Pruliers, with breadth and structure and spice. Less open across the palate, with more in reserve, and a greater sense of drive and concentration. Serious, brooding, yet with impeccable poise and the gorgeous texture that recalls the great wines of its neighbouring appellation. Boudots is well situated next to Vosne-Romanée Malconsorts and produces some of the bigger, richer and broader styles of Nuits whilst keeping a silky texture.
critic reviews
The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru is a blend of young vines planted in 2018 and old vines that Mathilde Grivot speculated could be up to a century old. The last vintage exclusively from the old vines was 2015). It has a complex bouquet, with a mixture of red and black fruit, potpourri, crushed minerals and light sea spray scents that evoke images of the sea. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit. It's the spiciest of Grivot's NSGs, with commendable weight and impressive mineralité toward the focused, intense finish. This has a bright future ahead.
