Very slight smoky reduction notes, more as crushed stones than struck match, a subtle nuanced flintiness that precedes an attack that is broad and sleek, but tapers to a fine saltiness, with a touch of umami. More stones than fruit. Very smart. Aged in 10% new oak barrels. One of the estate’s and Puligny's highest vineyards, planted on poor, stony soils.

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has a well-defined nose with gravelly scents that unfold with each swirl. It's quite strict, with hints of white tea in the background. The palate is well balanced, with a slightly tangy opening, touches of orange pith and a slither of sour lemon. Stem ginger adds a bit of feistiness on the finish. Drink it over the next decade.
