Puligny Montrachet, Les Garennes, 1er Cru, 2021
Flecks of herbs and a whisp of smoke bring a savoury component to the nose. Racy acidity over a highly mineral core. Dart like, tonic refreshment, all steely torque and focus. Lip-smacking stuff. Aged in 10% new oak barrels. One of the estate’s and Puligny's highest vineyards planted on poor stony soils.
critic reviews
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne reveals aromas of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit, toasted nuts and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, it's taut and tangy, with rather assertive acids, standing out as one of the estate's less successful efforts this year.
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru is quite backward on the nose, mineral-driven, slightly flinty in style. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, perhaps just a bit too much lime on the finish compared to other cuvées? Yet it should drink well for 10-12 years.
