Puligny Montrachet, Les Garennes, 1er Cru, 2016
justerini & brooks tasting note
Distinctly richer and fleshier than usual without losing its characteristic intense minerality. Crisp, savoury flavours of dry stones mixed with bright citrus fruit, a touch of greengage, and a hint of salt-rubbed limes. Chalky and tense with a rich, powerful finish. Aged in 10% new oak barrels. One of the estate’s and Puligny’s highest vineyards planted on poor stony soils.

The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru offers light grass clipping and apple peeling aromas, nicely defined if just missing a little intensity. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry, quite bright and focused with a clean, crisp if slightly abrupt finish. Tasted at the Domaine Direct Tasting in London.
