Aloxe Corton, Clos du Chapitre, 1er Cru, 2020
Earthier, broader and more powerful than the estate's other wines, but as Aloxes go, this is as fine as its gets. Earthy bramble and loganberry fruit with a glossy texture carrying the flavours across the palate. This builds further momentum as it rolls towards the finish, revealing notes of sweet spice, plum and damson. A magnificent due south-facing parcel of 50 year old vines towards the bottom of the Clos where the soil is redder clay than further up, with traces of flint and limestone. De-stalked prior to fermentation. Aged in 20% new oak barrels for 12 months followed by 6 months in tank.
critic reviews
The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Clos de Chapitre 1er Cru has an elegant nose that needed a little coaxing, a mixture of blueberry and black cherry fruit, quite sensual though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, taut and fresh, a touch of acidity with an cracked black pepper note that perks up the finish. Drink this over the next 12 to 15 years.
