Aloxe Corton, Clos du Chapitre, 1er Cru, 2022
Initially dominated by notes of earth and spice yet retaining the domaine’s translucent style, there’s a more robust fruit set at heart here. Kirsch, alpine herbs, orange peel all coalesce around a firm core of structure. Autumnal somehow. A magnificent due South-facing parcel of 50 year-old vines towards the bottom of the Clos where the soil is redder clay than further up, with traces of flint and limestone.
critic reviews
The 2022 Aloxe-Corton Clos de Chapitre 1er Cru is delineated and focused on the nose: sapid red berry fruit, hints of oyster shell and marine influences percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied and well-balanced. A cool, calm and collected Aloxe-Corton, perhaps because it was the first vineyard harvested. Maybe just missing a bit of grip on the finish, but otherwise, thoroughly enjoyable.
