Beaune, Les Grèves, 1er Cru, 2022
Very pale in colour and a touch more reserved than the Pommards, the quality is clear on the palate, with a sense of tension and a spine of fine minerals that comes from the limestone soils of Greves. A lifted, pale yet taut expression of this great vineyard; a Greves of translucency and tension. This is excellent. Well exposed and well drained, an early ripening plot that sits above L'Enfant Jesus. A mid-slope, South-East facing parcel planted on sandy clay and limestone soils spread over one hectare, one part planted in the 1960s, the remainder in the 1980s.
critic reviews
The 2022 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru is a step up on complexity from the Montreveneaux, with crushed rocks infusing the red plum and cranberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry. A solid backbone here lends it a Pommard-like finish. Impressive persistence; this should age well in bottle.
