Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, 2021
Big savoury complexity on the nose, a depth charge of aromas. One senses a natural grandeur here, deep layers with a lovely freshness. Volume and dimension with a beautiful mineral finish. Briar, wild cherry a deep earthy component come together in a combination of power and lift. A very fine, commanding yet refined Clos de Vougeot. A parcel planted in 1986 that comprises a 150-metre-long row of vines that passes over a range of soil types, more clay in the lower part and rockier limestone in the higher part. Aged, as for all the wines in 2021, with no new oak.
critic reviews
The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru shows a little reduction on the nose, but it opens nicely with red plum and raspberry fruit, loam and undergrowth scents percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, gentle grip and a fine bead of acidity; a judicious touch of pepper appears towards the finish. There is an abiding sense of harmony here.
