Pommard, Vieilles Vignes, 2021
Much higher toned than the Bourgogne, offering up fine red berries, cool stones, herbs and delicate spices. Very lacy and taut with great tension, a real sense of the perfume of crushed rocks and wild cherry. Very much driven by its limestone minerality, this sits high on the palate. Very fine. A veritable old vines cuvée split across three lieux dits - Cras, Vignot, Chagnieres - half of the parcels were planted in the 1950s, the rest in the 1980s.
critic reviews
The 2021 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a blend of three parcels, and for the first time, these were fermented in the same tank. It has a pretty nose with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit laced with crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and perhaps just a little hardness on the back palate, though it should soften by the time of bottling.
