Puligny Montrachet, Les Folatières, 1er Cru, 2018

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Sheer class. Stylish fruit that melts in your mouth. Fluid and easy but so layered and sophisticated. There is nothing missing here nor is there anything forced about it either. Notes of stone, fruit blossom, peach, mineral and citrus flow seamlessly across the palate. Stunning. A south-east facing plot called "au Chaniot" abutting Montrachet, in the south-east corner of Folatieres touching Cailleret and Pucelles. Here the soil is an even mix of limestone and marne clay. Aged in 20% new oak for 12 months followed by six months in tank.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru is more tertiary on the nose, backward at first, but opens nicely with aeration. The palate is well balanced, quite citrus-fresh on the entry, fine tension, sports a slight reduction towards the finish that should hold it in good stead as it matures in bottle, though it does become more pronounced with aeration. So give this a good decant if you are opening soon. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.
