Volnay, Taillepieds, 1er Cru, 2010
Taillepieds is a stony vineyard that habitually produces some of the domaine’s most brooding and mineral wines. However, the 2010 is notably more open and giving than usual, at first glance. The palate boasts fabulous flavours of fragrant raspberry, loganberry, bramble and dark cherry; crisp and edgy with considerable lushness and sweetness of fruit at the same time maintaining that very “Taillepieds” earth, dry stone and mineral quality. Fantastic.
critic reviews
The 2010 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru has heart-warming transparency on the nose with ebullient red fruit and a background scent of tomato vine. I find this a little more absorbing than the Champans 2010 that precedes it. The palate is very smooth and silky, with impressive amplitude and depth, a little sweeter and charming than the Champans with a pastille-like and utterly seductive finish. Superb. Tasted at the Marquis d'Angerville tasting in London.
