Chambolle Musigny, Les Sentiers, 1er Cru, 2021
Glossy saline fruit with a kinetic kick, salty dark berries, flowers and complex touches of herb. A snaking, taut Chambolle of robust minerality, tension and length. Wild cherry and salt on the finish. Clearly much more to come here. A parcel of 80-year-old vines situated below Bonnes Mares planted on iron-rich clay soils giving full, structured wines. All fermented with whole bunches and aged in a maximum of 20% new wood.
critic reviews
The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru comes from Cordon-Royat-trained 80-year-old vines that encountered a lot of frost. Raised in 40% new oak, this has a tightly-wound bouquet that unfurls with redcurrant, cranberry and light blood orange scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the tensile red fruit; citrus fresh with a pleasant bitterness lending energy on the finish. Drink this fine Chambolle over the next 12-15 years.
