Brut, Les Premices, nv
A beautifully pure and chiseled style from the sands and chalks of Trigny. The nose is all crisp winter berries, chalk dust and saline-flecked golden stone fruit, with a suggestion of ripe gooseberry. The palate follows with wonderful clarity and precision: linear, bright and quietly complex, finishing taut, mineral and moreish. A superb introduction to the house’s exacting, vinous aesthetic.
critic reviews
Based on the 2022 vintage and disgorged in May 2026 with a dosage of two grams per liter, Egly's NV Les Prémices emerges from the glass with aromas of orange oil, pear and peach mingled with fresh bread. Medium-bodied, rich and fleshy, with ripe yet racy acidity, it offers a textural profile animated by a pillowy mousse. Vinified entirely in stainless steel, it incorporates 50% reserve wines from 2021 and 2020 and derives from the village of Trigny in the Massif de Saint-Thierry.
Simple and easy to approach, Les Prémices NV presents attractive notes of white peach, apricot and honey. The light-bodied palate offers subtle notes orchard fruit and white flower supported by a soft acid line. Equal parts Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, this cuvée is based on the 2019 vintage, with reserve wine from the previous two years. Stainless fermented and aged three years on lees, it is finished with a one gram per liter dosage. This cuvée was created in 2016 as a family project to celebrate a new generation of winemaking at the domain. Disgorged July 2023.
A new wine in the Egly range, the NV Brut Les Prémices is a Chardonnay/Pinot Noir/Meunier blend from Trigny, all 2016 vintage. Bright floral notes and the natural richness of Pinots come together nicely in this entry-level bottling. There is good energy, but naturally not quite the textural breadth of the top wines. Disgorged: July, 2020, with 36 months on the lees.
