Cuvée 1522, Philipponnat, 2019
The 2019 1522 Blanc, containing Pinot from the Grand Crus of Verzy and Mailly and Chardonnay from Mesnil sur Oger, is wonderfully alive and energetic, with elegant citrus fruits, high-toned florality and mouthwatering chalky minerality. Sapid, mint-flecked red fruits and toast emerge on the finish. There is real tension here, but also generosity – delivering a wine that marries laser-like precision with rich, flamboyant fruit.

The 2019 Extra Brut 1522 is superb. Soaring floral top notes lead into kirsch, lemon confit, mint and chalk. Tropical overtones follow, adding layers of dimension and complexity. All this needs is a bit more time in bottle to be at its most expressive. There's a lot of wine here. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 2025.
