Two thousand seventeen marked the first vintage of Equilibre Sancerre for Stephanie and Jean-Philippe Agisson. Tasted alongside the later vintages (2018 & 2020), it seems a little less tender and textural. It doesn't have the gorgeousness that exudes in more recent bottlings. And yet it is taut and long with a salty almost briny character developing at five years. The Agissons were worried because this was their first vintage and that meant using new barrels with the possibility it would become too woody, but time has shown those fears were unfounded.
