Côte Rôtie, La Viaillère, 2017
Generous and mouth-filling with rich but lively loganberry flavours. Juicy forest berry fruits with a sweeter touch of griotte. Sumptuous and floral. Seductive and opulent. Now that Clusel-Roch's vineyards are 32-years-old they are starting to produce outstanding wine and as such Clusel Roch decided, as of the 2009 vintage, to bottle it up as a separate cuvée. The bottom of the slope still goes into the main Cote Rotie blend. Aged for around 16 months in a maximum of 15% new oak
critic reviews
Inky ruby. Highly expressive, mineral-accented blackberry, cherry, potpourri and exotic spice aromas take on a licorice nuance as the wine opens up. Intense black and blue fruit, floral pastille, cola and spicecake flavors are firmed by a spine of juicy acidity. Puts on weight on an extremely persistent, sharply delineated finish that repeats the dark berry and floral notes and leaves a hint of succulent herbs and smoky minerals behind.
