Côte Rôtie, Les Schistes, 2022
Restless red fruits dominate, with a perfumed and grippy feel, accentuated notes of raspberry leaf, blood orange, redcurrant and plums, the 2022 finishes very stony and juicy – one would be hard pressed to call this as a warm vintage. A blend largely from the schist, south-east facing vineyards of the Verenay commune including the lower part of Viallière, Champon and Le Plan. As ever a proportion of whole bunches have been used in fermentation, in this case 50%. Ageing is in oak barrels for at least 15 months with less than 15% new wood.
critic reviews
The 2022 Cote Rotie Les Schistes, sourced from various plots across different soil types and vinified separately before blending, the 2022 Cote Rotie Les Schistes exudes a delicately smoky, intense bouquet of dark berries, pepper, flowers and spices. Medium to full-bodied, juicy and round for a Cote Rotie, it's fresh and tense, with a lovely, linear mid-palate that leads to an ethereal, perfumed and tense finish. This wine serves as an ideal introduction to the Clusel-Roch universe.
The 2022 Côte-Rôtie Les Schistes was vinified with 30% whole clusters and aged 20 months in French oak barriques (15% new). Black cherry, meaty undertones, cedar and pencil shaving aromas are all pushed forward. Medium- to full-bodied, the 2022 is concentrated and generous with a savory profile.
