Châteauneuf du Pape, 2016
Very much in the blockbuster 2016 style. Rich hearty and blustering. Very concentrated black cherry, cassis and redder kirsch notes. Enveloping, broad, deep and silky smooth. Mouth-coating flavours ooze from the glass. From a blend of grapes coming in vines in the Pointu and Rayas sectors where plantations are 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and the rest a mixture of other permitted co-planted varieties. Whole bunch, spontaneous yeast-fermented and aged in old oak tonneaux for two Springs.
critic reviews
Bright ruby-red. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, cherry compote and candied flowers are energized by a smoky mineral topnote. Appealingly sweet and focused on the palate, offering energetic red and blue fruit flavors that deepen slowly with aeration. Shows hints of candied lavender and star anise on the impressively long, sappy finish, which features smooth tannins and resonating florality.
