Châteauneuf du Pape, Pure, 2020
A faint hint of reduction keeps this nice and coiled initially, but it is not long before the wine shows its true colours: a little aeration reveals a very seductive, soft and sensual wine. Very much typical of this cuvee for its floral elegance, silky red sweet fruits, hints of flower and small, juicy red berries. Soft, ripe but incredibly persistent and lifted, with requisite density bolstering the free-flowing fruit. Barroche's legendary 100% Grenache cuvée that comes from a plot of 100 year old vines planted on the sandy soils at the junction of the Rayas, Grand Pierre and Pointu sectors, found on the way to Courthezon from Châteauneuf. The wine is fermented gently and aged in unobtrusive large old oak foudres. Only 4,000 bottles are made.
