Côte Rôtie, La Landonne, 1996
A big a closed wine that will keep for a good 20 years which is typically less evolved than either La Mouline or La Turque. The deeply concentrated flavours are of dark fruit, liquorice spice with meaty notes.
critic reviews
The 1996 Cote Rotie La Landonne was herbaceous early in life, but is now revealing a black olive/tapenade, melted asphalt character in its smoky, earthy, animal, blackberry, leathery fruit. A masculine, full-bodied offering, with more tannin, it will be drinkable relatively soon. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018. Importer: Fred Ek, Ex Cellars Wine Agencies, Solvang, CA; tel. Color similar to the Turque. Knockout aromas of sappy cherry, roasted game, fresh blood, dark chocolate and road tar. Hugely rich and chewy, but considerably less evolved than the last two samples, with a rather powerful structure. Explosive back-end flavors build slowly but go on and on. Will be long-lived.
