Jean Paul Versino
Châteauneuf du Pape, Cuvée Felix, 2005
justerini & brooks tasting note
An exemplary cuvée aged in 6-year-old wooden barriques. The 2005 contains more Mourvèdre and less Syrah thannormal, giving a velvety, dense texture to this wine. This has an entrancing, Asian spice, leather and ripe, juicy hedgerow quality to it and is vastly concentrated – unsurprising given the yields were no more than 20 hl/ha.

Deep ruby. Wildly aromatic, complex bouquet of fresh raspberry, cherry, garrigue and smoked meat. Deep and sweet, offering fleshy red and dark berry liqueur flavors along with candied licorice, beef blood and succulent herbs. This is extremely complex and finishes with outstanding clinging persistence. Put this one away to sleep.
