Châteauneuf du Pape, Clos des Papes, 2024
The product of a small crop as ever, this year just 18hl/ha, the 2024 presents a deep yet fresh and articulate expression. Red plums, violet, and cool dark spices, the tannins are sweet and generous finishing with a lovely sense of sculpt and definition. A sublime CNDP, tasted from barrel. Vincent recommends giving all his reds a long decant as the spice of the Mourvedre can be more present on opening.
critic reviews
Cropped at a minuscule 16 hl/ha, the promising 2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape checks in at 15.1% alcohol. Boasting a whopping 45% Mourvèdre within the total blend, this is a lip-smackingly spicy, fleshy and black-fruited Clos des Papes with stunning intensity. Complex and expressive, the full-bodied 2024 is shaped by ripe tannins and packs notable tension alongside measured opulence, maintaining striking overall balance at all times. Without a doubt, the 2024 Clos des Papes is a candidate for the wine of the vintage.
