Châteauneuf du Pape, Cuvée de Mon Aïeul, 2007
This Cuvée was created by the Usseglio borthers as a homage to their grandfather. A 100% Grenache from 80-year- old vines planted on a mixture of three differing terroirs – galets roulets, clay and sand, aged in a mixture of used demi muid barrels and smaller barriques. This is truly aristocratic; fine noble tannins support a palate rich in fruit and flavour, spiced autumn berry, damson, bramble, sap and clove spice. Pure, long with a fine but fortifying tannic grip. Delicious.
critic reviews
Vivid ruby. Exotic, complex nose displays scents of raspberry, smoky herbs, anise and gingerbread. Supple red and dark berry preserve flavors are seamless and alluringly sweet, and nicely lifted by tangy minerality. Manages to be both rich and lively, finishing with impressive clarity and persistent spiciness.
