Schlossberg, Spätburgunder, Grosses Gewächs, 2016
justerini & brooks tasting note
A cool yet aromatic profile sees laser cut notes of alpine red fruits alongside star anise, cinnamon, pepper and deep cherry. The palate feels richer than either Bienenberg or Sommerhalde, with plenty of mid palate fruit atop a firm core of cool white chalky minerality. This will need time to completely unravel itself such is the intensity and concentration on display. Schlossberg is a steeply terraced vineyard composed of pure white limestone directly south facing and planted entirely to French Pinot clones.
