Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2024
The Juffer Sonnenuhr GG routinely offers a little more roundness next to the Juffer, thanks to its slightly warmer exposure in the heart of the vineyard, old vines and a longer fermentation. Clear cut and classic in feel, not showy but silky and poised, as ever. Ageing is carried out in wood.
critic reviews
The 2024 Juffer GG Brauneberg Riesling displays a dense yet subtle and elegant slate nose with ripe, pleasantly concentrated fruit aromas that do not overwhelm the slate notes. Juicy, spicy, and full-bodied, this is a generous, lively and mouth-filling Riesling with the typical Brauneberg delicacy and finesse. The finish is stimulatingly salty, balanced and light-footed yet also substantial. There are grapefruit bitters in the aftertaste. Tasted at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewachs in Wiesbaden, August 2025.
The 2024 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Grosses Gewächs is from old vines between 30 and 80 years old, with some vines planted in the first decade of the last century. Density, serenity and subtlety stand out immediately. The nose is shy, but the palate has substance, stoniness and juiciness. Everything here is compact, with gorgeously racy acidity, fill and suppleness on a superbly contoured, stony body. The 2024 is wonderful, understated and serene. (Bone-dry)
