Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Auslese, 2012
justerini & brooks tasting note
Wehlen’s great Sonnenuhr vineyard is known for producing some of the Mosel’s most refined and elegant wines, struck through with fine grey slate minerality. In 2012 this is a wine of incredible purity, so much so that it comes across as less immediately characterful than the Graacher Himmelreich, though texturally more refined, silky, sleek and graceful. Delicate floral notes, grey slate, sweet pure yellow fruits – this is incredibly charming and sunny as it flutters and dances its way across the palate, while also surprisingly intense. A wine for purists. Just beautiful.
