Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Auslese, 2024
justerini & brooks tasting note
An Auslese that owing to its concentration comes across more primary and less expressive than the Spätlese today. Not reductive, but closely packed, presenting stone fruits and melon dipped in creamed honey. Less spice and minerals at this stage, more on the white and yellow fruits, and a fine, gentle acid thread. An Auslese to lay down for ten years and come back to.

The 2024 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese, without any botrytis to speak of, flirts with peach bathed in orange zest with a gorgeous frisson of bergamot. It has a serene sweetness, delving deep into ripe, golden peach flesh. The 2024 is gorgeously framed with tangy citrus on a beautifully contoured body that is so racy, sleek and smooth. What a class act. (Sweet)
