Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Spätlese, 2014
A Spatlese that feels like fine bone china, with white fruits, melon, green apple and oriental citrus combining with jasmine and honeysuckle, and then the dancing blue/grey slate of Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr - a very pure, very delicate Spatlese that speaks very clearly of its site.
critic reviews
This is looser in palate impression than the corresponding Niederberg Helden, but equally delicate and no less juicy. A musky, sweaty side of botrytis – albeit segueing into slight fermentative stink – comes to the fore in the nose, but the peachy fruit is purer than expected, and the finish refreshes and stimulates even as it caresses, with an undertone of set stone serving to remind us that we’re on the Mosel.
The 2014 Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese (AP #11) offers clear, intense and very ripe, but still bright and healthy fruit on the nose. Sweet, piquant and very fine on the palate, this is a noble Spatlese with a stunning concentration, but a lovely raciness, as well as lingering salinity and mineral grip in the finish. Very young, but worth it to be aged for 15-25 years.
