Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Spätlese, 2017
A Spatlese that feels like fine bone china, with white fruits, melon, green apple and oriental citrus combining with jasmine and honeysuckle, and then the dancing blue/grey slate of Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr - a very pure, very delicate Spatlese that speaks very clearly of its site.
critic reviews
Muskmelon, mango and apricot on the nose – and more so on the glossy, oily, drippingly rich palate – signal fruit of advanced though healthy ripeness and offer a marked contrast with the fruit character of Thomas Haag’s Grosses Gewächs from this site. Fortunately, a zesty, bright influx of fresh lime enlivens the lingering, prominently sweet finish.
The 2017 Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese is stunningly coolish and stony on the flinty nose with its bright fruit aromas. Lush, sweet, concentrated on the palate, this is an elegant and well-structured but very sweet Spatlese that needs at least 10 years to gain more finesse and complexity. Tasted in March 2019.
