Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Riesling, Spätlese, 2017
A little more backward than some of the other Spatlese in the line-up, yet nevertheless a wine clearly built on fabulous electric energy and super-seductive fruit. Pineapple and tangerine notes are married to chiselled, energetic blue and grey slate notes, the delivery one of high voltage and high definition brilliance.
critic reviews
Lime, grapefruit, cassis and mint deliver an effusive nose and a generously juicy, coolingly herb-tinged palate impression. The personality here could scarcely be more different from that of the corresponding, borderline overripe Juffer-Sonnenuhr. Flatteringly silken and buoyant, this beauty finishes with luscious generosity of fruit, mouthwatering salinity and consummate refreshment. Once again, Goldtröpfchen – in which Haag now has eleven different parcels and says he harvested in 2017 much later than did his fellow vineholders – really excels in the current collection.
