Saarburger Rausch, Riesling, Spätlese, 2016
Subtle, satiny flavours of chamomile, mango, mint, salt and peach drift across the palate - a Spatlese of great refinement, with the silkiest of textures, sheer fruit, no hard edges at all, tapering to a calm, cool fruit finish. Pure pleasure.

The 2016 Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spatlese (AP #3) offers a terrific bouquet of tropical fruit aromas intermixed with very fine, coolish slate and flinty aromas. Lush yet very elegant and fine on the palate, with highly delicate salinity in the finish, this is a beautiful Spatlese that reveals very fine raisin flavors and highly delicate acidity. This is a gorgeous Riesling from the Saarburger Rausch! Made with some percent of overripe berries, which gives this fabulous aroma and lush texture. Great finesse here as well. Tasted March 2018.
Lime, grapefruit, white peach and papaya dominate on the nose and palate, accompanied by delightful accents of cooling mint, bittersweet iris perfume and Rausch-typical hints of smoke and stone. The combination of animatingly juicy citricity with seductively creamy texture is quite striking, and the resounding finish is bell-clear, consummately refreshing and impeccably balanced, despite harboring an amazingly high level of residual sugar.
