Emrich Schönleber
Monzinger Halenberg, Riesling, Spätlese, 2021
justerini & brooks tasting note
Wild yeast, spontaneous and herbal, slate-led intonations dominate initially, eventually making way for this very animated, cooling and refreshing Spätlese to strut its stuff, displaying notes of herbs, grass and white pepper. Super vibrant and fresh with a certain stature and stunning complexity.

Schonleber's 2021 Halenberg Spatlese is clear and dense but also still pretty reductive on the nose. Lush, sweet and savory on the palate, this is a crystalline, piquant, grippy and quite sweet yet promising Riesling from the Halenberg, which is possibly not a Spatlese vineyard. Natural cork. 9% stated alcohol. Tasted at the domaine in August 2022.
